Privacy Policy

No Solis account, app analytics, advertising trackers or subscriber database. Display controls and purchase access are handled on your Mac. Gumroad handles purchases made through our website. Those services process data under their own privacy policies.

Local display data and settings

Solis uses ambient light, brightness, battery and thermal information to control your display. Preferences, presets, brightness history and learned adjustments stay on your Mac. If you enable location for sunset scheduling, macOS provides a location that Solis caches locally for sunrise and sunset calculations. Solis does not upload this display or location data.

In Solis for Mac, Warmth and Deep Red use the macOS Color Filter. Solis saves the previous filter settings locally so it can restore them when the feature stops or the app quits, and recover them on a later launch after an interrupted session.

Solis Lite (Mac App Store)

Solis Lite is free and has no purchases, accounts or network features. It draws warmth, Deep Red and dimming as see-through windows over the screen and changes no system settings. Its preferences stay on your Mac. If you turn on Warm at sunset, macOS provides an approximate location that Solis Lite keeps locally to work out sunrise and sunset; it is never uploaded. Direct purchases and license activation

Website purchases take place on Gumroad. Gumroad processes checkout information and makes order information available to us for sales administration and support. We do not receive full payment card details. See Gumroad’s privacy policy.

When you activate a Gumroad license in the direct app, Solis sends the license key to Gumroad to check the purchase and activation limit. A license key can be associated with an order; it is not anonymous data. The validated key and returned license information are cached in local preferences and Keychain to keep activation working offline. Signed offline licenses are checked on your Mac.

Updates and website requests

The direct app checks for updates through Sparkle, with system profiling disabled. The App Store edition receives updates through Apple. Our update server and website host receive ordinary request information, such as an IP address and requested page, to serve downloads and protect the service.

heysolis.com (this site) uses Umami, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service, to count visits, trial-download clicks, checkout clicks and non-identifying campaign labels. It sets no cookies, needs no consent banner, and records no personally identifiable information: no names, no emails, no license keys, no device identifiers, no precise location. This applies only to the website. The Solis app itself contains no analytics.

Support and diagnostics

If you email hello@heysolis.com, we receive your email address and the information you send so we can respond. Diagnostics are copied or saved only when you choose; review them before sharing. The app does not automatically upload diagnostics or crash reports to us.

Retention and your choices

Local preferences, purchase caches and license records remain on your Mac until removed. Some license and trial records can survive reinstalling through Keychain or other local trial markers, to preserve purchased access and prevent a trial from restarting. Apple retains its own transaction records, which can restore your purchases.

Purchase administration and support information is used as needed to fulfill purchases, resolve requests, prevent abuse and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. Provider-held payment records and hosting logs follow the relevant provider’s retention rules. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

You can turn off optional location access in macOS, stop using the app, and contact us to ask about access, correction or deletion of personal information we hold. Applicable privacy rights and legal retention exceptions depend on your location and the record involved. Where GDPR applies, you may also have rights to restriction, objection and portability, and the right to complain to a data protection authority.
