Privacy Policy
The Solis app collects nothing. There is no account, no tracking, no analytics, and no server. Everything the app does happens locally on your Mac. (The heysolis.com website uses a privacy-friendly, cookieless visitor counter; see "This website" below.)
What Solis reads (and never sends)
- Ambient light sensor. Only when Sunlight (adaptive brightness) is on, Solis reads your Mac's built-in ambient-light sensor in real time to suggest a brightness for the room, and stores the per-light-level brightness preferences it learns from your F1/F2 adjustments locally in macOS preferences. None of it leaves your Mac.
- Battery, thermal & brightness state. Read live from the system to ease the boost off on low battery or heat. Used in memory only; never stored or sent.
- Location. Only if you turn on Auto Warmth → Use my location, Solis asks macOS for your approximate location once and caches it on-device, solely to compute your local sunrise/sunset for the warmth schedule. It is never transmitted. You can leave it off and set fixed warm hours instead.
What Solis changes on your Mac
- Display brightness & backlight. Adjusted while Solis is running, and restored when you turn it off, quit, sleep, or even if it crashes.
- macOS Color Filter. Warmth and the red Astronomy mode use macOS's own built-in color filter for a true, accurate tint. While they're on, System Settings will show "Color Filters" as active; Solis snapshots your previous setting and restores it exactly when you turn them off (and on quit/crash). This is a local system setting. Nothing is transmitted.
- Settings. Your Solis preferences are stored locally in macOS
UserDefaults. Nothing is uploaded.
No telemetry (the app)
The Solis app makes no network connections of its own: no analytics, no crash reporting, no phone-home. The only time it reaches the network is when you redeem a license key, which is verified once with the payment provider. Nothing else is ever sent.
This website
heysolis.com (this site) uses Umami, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service, to count visits and which buttons are clicked. It sets no cookies, needs no consent banner, and records no personally identifiable information: no names, no emails, no precise location. This applies only to the website. The Solis app itself still collects and sends nothing.
