Why two editions? Apps on the Mac App Store run inside Apple’s App Sandbox, which doesn’t let them control the display’s backlight. Solis for Mac is notarized by Apple and sold here, without that limit.
Something not working?
Missing a feature? It’s most likely Apple’s rules, not a bug.
Apps on the Mac App Store run inside Apple’s App Sandbox, which doesn’t let them control the display’s backlight or system color settings. That limits what Solis Lite can do. Solis for Mac, on this website, has none of those limits and is always the most complete, up to date version.
I can’t find the sun in the menu bar
On MacBooks with a notch, menu bar icons can hide behind it when the bar is full. Open Solis Lite from Launchpad or the Applications folder and its window appears, with every control.
Warm at sunset doesn’t follow the sun
It needs your approximate location for sunrise and sunset times. Turn it on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Solis Lite. Without location, Solis Lite uses 7 pm to 7 am.
My screenshots look warm or dark
Solis Lite draws warmth and dimming as see-through layers over the screen, so screenshots and screen recordings include them. Turn them off before you capture.
The brightness keys work the usual way
That’s expected. Solis Lite leaves the brightness keys and the normal brightness range to macOS. Keys that go past 100% are part of Solis for Mac.
Does Solis Lite collect any data?
No. There’s no account, no analytics and no network feature. Your settings stay on your Mac, and so does your location if you turn on Warm at sunset. See the privacy policy.
